Equine Assisted Recovery Services

AT AHIMSA THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

Recovery Through Connection

Recovery is about more than abstaining from a behavior—it's about rediscovering who you are, rebuilding meaningful connections, and creating a life that aligns with your values.

Ahimsa Therapeutic Services offers Equine-Assisted Recovery Services for individuals navigating substance use recovery, eating disorder recovery, and other recovery journeys. Through guided, ground-based interactions with horses, participants have the opportunity to strengthen emotional awareness, resilience, self-compassion, healthy boundaries, and coping skills in a peaceful, supportive farm environment.

Horses offer immediate, honest feedback that encourages self-awareness, emotional regulation, and authentic connection. Their ability to respond to what we communicate—both verbally and nonverbally—creates meaningful opportunities for reflection, growth, and lasting change.

Recovery services may benefit individuals who are:

  • Recovering from substance use disorders

  • Recovering from an eating disorder or disordered eating

  • Transitioning from residential, PHP, or IOP programs

  • Looking to strengthen healthy coping skills

  • Building confidence and self-worth

  • Working toward emotional regulation and resilience

  • Seeking ongoing support and accountability in recovery

A Personal Perspective

In addition to my professional experience, I bring the perspective of someone who has experienced long-term recovery firsthand. I understand that recovery isn't linear and that healing often happens through connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. My hope is to create a space where individuals feel supported, encouraged, and empowered as they continue building a meaningful life in recovery.

A Collaborative Approach

Equine-Assisted Recovery Services are designed to complement—not replace—therapy, medical care, nutrition counseling, or formal treatment programs. When appropriate, services may be coordinated with therapists, dietitians, physicians, sponsors, recovery programs, or other members of a participant's support team.

What to Expect

  • All sessions are ground-based—there is no riding involved.

  • Please dress comfortably for an outdoor farm environment and wear closed-toe shoes.

  • Once a session is scheduled, we require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling.
